Spooky Where? Halloween Locations Out Of The Ordinary

From eerie costumes and wicked witches to creative pumpkin art, the world remains divided when it comes to Halloween. One thinks it's spooky and satanic, while others just enjoy getting their costumes out, crafting pumpkins, and decorating houses.  With a wide array of Halloween events and activities available, there's something for everyone during spooky season.

Where did it all begin? Let´s travel to the top 3 Halloween locations, where the roots lie.

Halloween origins - Dublin, Ireland

Halloween celebration dates from the Celtic era, around 2.0000 years ago. It was invented as an ancient festival of the Samhain people, connected with the harvesting season. They believed that November 1 marked the end of the harvesting season and the beginning of winter.

The entrance to Oweyngat cave (aka Cave of the cats) where the rituals took place, is still visible to this day. And back in time, this was believed to be “The entrance to the underworld.“

Unfortunately, it´s not 100% as it was originally. The mound that surrounded the entrance was removed in the 20th century, but you can still explore the site today.

Apart from that historical site, you can expect a variety of activities in Ireland during the Halloween season:

  • theatre plays like Macbeth,
  •  tour of fire and folklore in the Ardgillian Castle
  • Pumpkins in May Park - storrytelling, face-paint & a bit of magic

A little bit of history, laughter and spookiness for all, making it a perfect fall festival destination.

Home of the Halloween count - ”Dracula” - Transylvania, Romania

Halloween was born in Dublin, but the most famous vampire known as Count Dracula was born in Transylvania. If you’ve seen the movie Hotel Transylvania, you know it’s the place where monsters hide from humans. Well, the real Transylvania offers the same kind of mystery and charm — but with castles, forests, and legends instead of animation.

Visit the famous Bran Castle, often called Dracula’s Castle, and join one of the many Halloween tours that let you escape from the ordinary (and, as in the movie, maybe from some humans too).

For the brave ones, there is a trip to the spooky Hoia forest known for some unexplained phenomens which got her the adjective “haunted”. And if you are into historical stories, then exploring Saxon villages would be a good option for you. These villages nestled in the hills and the time kinda stopped there, so you can explore unique architecture and feel the traditional life.
